HF Mobile Station Info

Yaesu FT-857D and ATAS-120A installed in a 2005 Toyota Tacoma 4WD



The radio head is installed in the front center console:



And the radio body is installed under the left rear seat:



The ATAS antenna is mounted on the truckbox behind the cab.

  1. Wow - that's my exact truck (almost, mine is a 2006) and color. Unfortunately, I've got an Undercover cover over the bed, so I was thinking of mounting the ATAS-120 from a bracket at the base of the rear bumper. I'm also looking at the 857-D. I've also got no more than 4 inches above the truck roof to clear my garage door, which makes things really interesting.

  2. Did you just use a screw in a small cargo box for your ground strap?

    1. The antenna is grounded to the aluminum truck box with four bolts, and the box is grounded to the side-walls and front-wall of the truck bed via three copper braid ground straps (underneath the box, straps are short, about 4" long). The truck bed walls are grounded to each other via similar straps, as well as grounded to the frame at four points.
